In a time where many of us are conducting business online, we think it’s important to put a face to a name. Our Staff Spotlight series will give you a little insight into the lives of our Nicholsons colleagues. Let’s find out a bit more about Partner, Andrew Suttie.

How long have you been with Nicholsons?

Since 8 May 2006.

Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

My wallet.

What’s the best part of your job?

Problem solving.

What motivates you to get up and go to work?

My inbox.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Accept work from everyone. Use your time wisely and efficiently. Never leave work before your supervisor. Leave your sense of entitlement at home. Create your own brand and develop a personal marketing strategy.

Enough about work, let’s talk about your life outside of Nicholsons.

What’s something that most people don’t know about you?

I’m writing a musical. It’s been some years in the making. It’s a great way to completely remove myself from work (in my limited spare time).

How would your family and friends describe you in three words?

Funny, hard-working and generous (although my mother says I’m arrogant).

What skill do you think everyone should learn?

We’ve heard you’re a bit of a wine connoisseur. What’s your favourite drop?

I can’t possibly limit it to one drop. But you can’t go past a luscious chardonnay from the Margaret River (like a Kevin John from the inimitable Vanya Cullen) or an elegant Pinot Noir from Bannockburn across the ditch (like a Slapjack Block from Terra Sancta) or an unashamedly bold shiraz from the McLaren Vale (like a Blue Eyed Boy from those fantastical left-handers at Mollydooker).

In addition to spending your free time tasting fine wine, we’ve heard you’re a musician. What do you play?

I’m a saxophonist. Until recently, I thought I was pretty good. YouTube has made me realise I’m not as good as I thought. Like anything, there’s lots more to learn and plenty of room for improvement!
