Relevant Experience

Troy heads our Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Division and is responsible for the litigation and resolution of disputes predominantly in the Supreme and Federal Courts and also as an advocate in the Magistrates and District Courts. Having more than fifteen years experience, he has had exposure to the full spectrum of commercial disputes, from high-profile litigation, to representing clients in specialised forums such as the Commercial & Consumer Tribunal and handling the more routine matters in contract, debt and other disputes.

Troy has considerable industry experience acting for publicly listed and private companies in the property, commercial, retail and industrial sectors.

One of the focuses of Troy’s practice is corporate and personal insolvency, acting both for and against insolvency practitioners.

Troy has advised and acted for major clients in relation to breaches of directors’ duties, as well as the litigation and resolution of directors’, shareholders’ and partnership disputes. Troy advises clients in relation to the consumer protection provisions and the rights and obligations of corporations under the Trade Practices Act and has advised and acted on behalf of clients in actions concerning corrective advertising, restrictive covenants in employment contracts, misleading and deceptive conduct and unconscionable conduct.

Having acted for significant property developers in South East Queensland, Troy has litigated a variety of actions in relation to land, including disputes concerning easements, removal of caveats and breach of contract. With our extensive body corporate client base at Nicholsons, Troy has regularly advised bodies corporate on their dealings with body corporate managers, caretaking and letting agreements, by-law compliance and lot entitlement adjustments. Troy has also acted for numerous clients in relation to town planning matters and is also experience in defamation and intellectual property matters.

As part of his focus on ensuring clients are provided with commercially sound practical solutions, Troy works closely with other professional advisers, including liaising with accountants, appointed receivers, administrators and liquidators.
