Fitness Challenge
March 2008
The Nicholsons Fitness Challenge was officially launched on 1 March 2008! The objectives of the Fitness Challenge are to:
1. strengthen staff relationships at all levels;
2. promote a team environment;
3. encourage a healthy work/life balance; and
4. support our community by group participation in fun runs and similar events for charitable purposes.
Whilst participation is completely voluntary, over one third of our partners and staff have accepted the challenge!
Participants in the Fitness Challenge are required to engage in at least two hours of physical exercise per week, and to keep track of their progress on a group fitness calendar. If any one participant fails to comply with the Fitness Challenge rules the entire team will lose their entitlement to a reward.
It is fair to say we are all working hard to ensure the success of the Fitness Challenge.
Airport Development & Residential Estate Project
August 2007
Nicholsons are currently involved in the front end planning of a new residential estate based at a regional airport, which incorporates special requirements to deal with the interaction between the estate and the operations of the airport. We understand this is the first type of this residential estate in Queensland. Our scope of works include conducting an appeal to the Planning and Environment Court, as well as the off the plan community title contracts of sale including easement documents and building covenants.
Goodlife Health Clubs
August 2007
Our Commercial team at Nicholsons has recently acted for the retained management team of Goodlife Health Clubs in relation to the sale of Goodlife for $60 Million to the ASX-listed Macquarie Leisure Trust Group.
The acquisition is conditional and is expected to complete in September. Details of the acquisition have been announced to the Australian Securities Exchange.
Over the last 12 months, Nicholsons have also assisted the original Goodlife owners with their sale to Colonial First State Private Equity Fund and with subsequent acquisitions by Goodlife of the Rockhampton, Hunts Fitzroy, Balwyn, Wantirna, Dingley Village and No1 Martin Place, Sydney clubs, as well as assisting with advice in relation to other clubs mentioned in the ASX announcements. Building on that strong relationship, Nicholsons were retained by the Goodlife management team in relation to the recent sale to Macquarie Leisure Trust Group and made key contributions to the transaction.
Michael Hayne's Retirement from Partnership Function
July 2007
A large gathering of luminaries recently celebrated the retirement of Michael Hayne from the partnership of Nicholsons Solicitors.
Keynote speaker the Honourable Chief Justice Paul De Jersey A.C highlighted that Michael had achieved the quite unique feat of being a member of the same firm for 32 years, 30 of those years as a partner.
Senior Partner Ian Marr hosted the formal part of the night amusing the crowd with often humorous anecdotes of Michael’s lengthy career at the longstanding Brisbane firm which commenced practice in 1894, poignantly pointing out that himself, Michael and Managing Partner Paul Baynes had been partners at the firm for the whole of Michael’s tenure as a partner. |

Nicholsons Solicitors will continue to benefit from Michael’s considerable experience as he continues with the firm as a consultant.
